Why are Hand-Signed Labels sought after by sophisticated collectors?

Over time, there has been much interest in the autographs of famous figures in the coin world.  Passionate coin collectors take great pleasure in the “hunt” for their treasured autograph signed labels. It is no surprise that certified coin labels quickly became favorites of coin collectors from all over the world.

Edmund Moy

In 2006, President George W. Bush appointed Edmund C. Moy as the 38 Director of the United States Mint. As the Director of the Mint, Moy was responsible for the production and distribution of various currencies. During Moy’s term, many unique and exciting coins were minted and released. The coins, medals, and programs created an increased interest in the hobby of modern coin collecting. With that in mind, The Numismatic Guarantee Corporation, also known as NGC, commissioned Moy to hand sign labels for their certified coins. The Moy Signature Label is a highly desired autograph in the numismatic world.

The American Eagle, rich in its history, makes these beautiful gems the most sought-after proof and bullion coins ever minted. In 1985 James Baker, Secretary of the Treasury signed the “Liberty Coin Act” into law during the administration of President Ronald Reagan.

  • The reverse design of the American Silver Eagle will be redesigned in 2021.  The anticipation of this monumental event is soaring in interest.
  • No collection is complete without 1986, 2020 W End of WWII 75th Anniversary Coin and Medal Program, or 2020 and 2021 American Silver Eagles.

Why Collect/Invest in American Eagles?

Each coin is a work of art in its grace and beauty. The American Silver Eagle bullion coins may be used to fund Individual Retirement Account investments. These silver dollars are a great investment as collectors flock to this rare coin.

The American Eagles Design

The design of the obverse side was taken from Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916-1947.  The obverse is inscribed with the year of minting, the word LIBERTY and the phrase IN GOD WE TRUST.

The reverse side, designed by John Mercanti, portrays the heraldic eagle behind a shield.  The eagle is grasping an olive branch in its right talon and arrows in its left talon.  Above the eagle are thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Colonies.  It is inscribed with the phrases the United States of America, 1 oz. FINE SILVER-ONE DOLLAR E PLURIBUS UNUM on the banner that the eagle holds in its beak.

Grading Services

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC)

NGC has certified over 47 million coins.  They offer NGC certification which consists of authentication, grading, attribution, and encapsulation in plastic holders. As a member of the Certified Collectibles Group, NGC is the official grading service for American Numismatic Association since 1995. Each year, the NGC Census reports information about the coin issues.  The NGC certification by grade helps to determine the value of each coin.

The certification grading is based on the 70 Point Sheldon coin grading scale.  Strike designations include Prooflike, Deep Prooflike, Cameo, and Ultra Cameo for coins.  Unique and hand-signed labels garner a higher price because of their rare status.
